Rocket Lawyer's $125 Buys a Platform. You May Only Need an Address.

Who is telling you this: a competitor. Michigan Registered Agent.co takes $99 a year to occupy the resident agent seat, which is the same seat Rocket Lawyer is selling. Their $125 is a published figure and we have not adjusted it. Everything else here is our opinion, offered by someone who benefits if you agree.

Nothing Expires and Nothing Doubles

Give Rocket Lawyer this much: $125 is $125. The price is identical at every membership tier we looked at, there is no discounted opening year that resets later, and you do not have to do arithmetic to work out your second-year cost. In a market full of two-stage pricing, that counts for something. The platform is also real. Document templates, attorney questions answered, a library of forms that a small business can actually use.

The $125 Is Not Just an Address

Agent service comes packaged inside that wider legal subscription, and the subscription is where most of the value sits. Use it monthly and the price is fair. Need only a Michigan address on a state form and you are funding a gym membership you never redeem.

Michigan draws the line unusually clearly, which helps here. Your registered office is an address on a state record, and the statute says outright that it may be, but does not have to be, where your business actually operates. That is the entire product being sold: a Michigan street address that stays staffed, sits on your filing, and receives whatever gets delivered there. Small job, specific job. It does not get better because a document library is stapled to the invoice. If you want the library, buy the library on purpose, and notice while you are doing it that you are buying two separate things.

The change certificate LARA numbers CSCL/CD-520 names your new resident agent and the registered office address going on file, and once the state records it the switch is complete. Hire the replacement before you send it in, since the form has to name somebody and Rocket Lawyer stays your agent of record until LARA enters the change, so the seat is never sitting empty. One caution about subscriptions: make sure the state record already shows your new agent before you cancel the membership. The filing is what changes your legal position. The subscription is only a bill.
